My name is Jason Pearson, and I am the founder of Peartree. Research is simply what I do and what I enjoy doing. I began a job in 2005 as a research analyst and learned that I enjoy researching anything and everything. As I began to experiment with my own personal research, I started out with house history. I had recently moved into a historic home built in the early 1900s. For this reason, I was curious to find out everything I could about its history, including the land it sits on.
In 2016, I began researching my house history and learned a great deal about different resources for compiling research on a home. Being a perfectionist, it took me a while to consider the project “complete”.
I’d heard many stories about my father’s family line and how it was considered a genealogy mystery beyond my grandfather. Relatives had traveled to various courthouses and libraries dating back to the 1980’s trying to tackle the mystery. When I was younger, naturally, this sort of mystery didn’t cross my mind that often but I now felt ready to engage. I knew I had something going for me as well – the emerging presence of DNA otherwise known as genetic genealogy.
It was a learning process, but through DNA, I gradually began to trace my father’s Pearson line. After this process was complete, I felt I could tackle anything.
I continued to help others do the same. There are so many genealogy mysteries out there. The research continued to occupy a lot of my free time because I enjoyed it. That’s why I started this. There’s nothing like getting paid to do for something you truly love doing or would do for free!
Another motivator is the fact this type of research is often very costly. I don’t believe it should be. That’s one of the reasons why it’s different here, as I am sure you will see.
